Prof. Dr. Timur GÜRGAN
prof. Dr. Timur Gürgan started his academic career as an assistant professor at Ankara Hacettepe University in 1985. In 1995, he became a professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the same university, where he served for more than 15 years as the Head of the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the first center accredited by the European Community. and the European Society for Reproductive Medicine and Embryology (ESHRE).
In 1986, she was appointed as a research assistant in reproductive medicine at the Joint Academic Unit of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Physiology at the London Hospital Medical School and at the Reproductive Endocrinology Unit of St Bartholomew’s Hospital. She also worked on assisted reproductive technologies at Lister Hospital in England, London Bridge Hospital, Bourn Hall Clinic, St Barnabas IVF Center in the USA and Guy’s Hospital in England. Professor in Canada on microsurgery and endoscopic surgery. He received training from Victor Gomel and other leading centers in the USA and Europe.
Between 1997-2000, he was the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hacettepe University, as well as the founder of the gynecological endoscopy, IVF center, andrology and menopause departments of the department. She introduced gynecological endoscopy, andrology and IVF in Turkey in the early nineties with the support of international experts.
He was a board member of the Turkish Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Turkish Menopause Association and the Turkish Gynecological Endoscopy Association. She also served in the ART license committee of the Ministry of Health for 8 years. She was the founding president of the Turkish Reproductive Medicine Association. She is still a board member and vice president of the same association that deals with special interest groups.
He is a founding member of the European Society of Gynecological Endoscopy and served as a Board member between 1996-2001. He has also served on the International Advisory Committee of the American Society of Gynecological Laparoscopists and is a board member of the International Society of Gynecological Endoscopy. She is an international consultant for the Middle East Fertility Society (MEFS) and on the editorial board of MEFS Magazine. He chaired the 13th World IVF, Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Genetics Congress held in Istanbul in May 2005. He has been serving on the board of the International IVF Association (ISIVF) for the last 6 years. He chaired the ISIVF World IVF Congress held in Turkey in 2017.
He is also a board member of the Mediterranean Society for Reproductive Medicine (MSRM) and will chair it from 2017 to 2019. He was chair of the MSRM Annual Meeting in 2007 and also organized the 2016 Annual Meeting in Turkey.
He became a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in 1988 and was a member of the International Advisory Board for over ten years and a Member of the Board of Directors for six years. He was the local chairman of the ESHRE Annual Congress held in Istanbul in 2012. He was appointed as the coordinator of special interest groups and task forces in 2013 and completed his duty in 2015.
His main areas of interest are PCOS, endometriosis, clinical applications of ARTs, IVM, implantation, cumulus cell co-culture, office hysteroscopy and prevention of multiple and OHSS in ART and endoscopic surgery. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 journal articles published in many peer-reviewed journals and various international books. He is also the interim referee of some journals such as RBM Online, Human Reproduction, Fertility Sterility, MEFS Journal and AAGL Journal. He is on the RBM Online Editorial Board. He has more than 100 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
Apart from his teaching and training activities at Istanbul Bahçeşehir University and İstinye University Hospital, he is the owner and Scientific Director of the Gürgan Clinic Women’s Health, Infertility and IVF Center in Ankara since 2001.
