Gastric bypass surgery refers to a surgical process in which the stomach is divided into a small upper pouch and a much larger lower “remainder” pouch and then rearranged to connect both of the small intestine.
The gastric balloon is a silicone balloon that is inflated to a volume of 400-700 cc with air or liquid after it is placed in the stomach. It is a temporary weight loss method applied endoscopically for those who cannot lose weight with diet and exercise, who do not want to have surgery, and who have a high risk of surgery. The gastric balloon should be removed after a period of 6 months to 1 year after it is placed.
Gastric sleeve surgery, which is performed by removing approximately 80% of the stomach in order to restrict food intake only, is the most frequently applied bariatric surgery method. Gastric sleeve surgery, which allows the person to reach a feeling of fullness faster by eating less, is mostly performed laparoscopically.
