Organ Transplantation is the process of transplanting organs or tissues of a person to another person in need for treatment, since there is no other medical solution available today. Transplantation is done by surgery or by various medical methods.
The donor and the recipient can be in the same location, or organs taken from a donor in a separate region can be transplanted to a recipient in another location.
Organs or tissues to be transplanted can be taken from living bodies or cadavers. When medical data are examined globally, it is seen that the most commonly transplanted organs are the kidneys, followed by the liver and heart. The key point for organ transplantation is transplant rejection problems such as the body’s immune response to the transplanted organ, possible transplant failure based on this, and the need to immediately remove the organ from the recipient.
Organ donors may be individuals who are alive, dead or brain dead, and whose lives are maintained by machines.
